Your library
Your library keeps what you want to use again, whatever group you are in. Teachers have four tabs: Resources (boards, files and links), Activities (documents, boards, code, questions and spoken answers, in one list), Lessons and Courses. Students keep boards and files, and their code.
Subject and Level above the tabs show what is for one subject or level: anything set to another is hidden; anything with neither set is always shown. Set them in an activity's form, or with Subject and level… in the ⋯ of anything else. Each card shows its subject and level, and a glimpse of what it holds.
Resources: boards and files
The folder tree is on the left; what the chosen folder holds is on the right: Boards, Elements (shapes kept from a board) and Files. Everything new goes to Unsorted.
- Upload, or drop files from your computer onto the window. Pictures, PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and code files open in a window when clicked. Sound and film play.
- Add link keeps a web page or a video.
- The ⋯ on each card or file (or a right click): open, download, rename, move, copy, tags, archive, delete.
- Drag cards and files onto folders, and folders into folders.
- Starred and Recent are in the tree. Delete puts things in the Bin: restore them within 30 days.
- Tags (in the ⋯ menu) are words such as a class or topic. Click a tag to show only what has it.
Teachers can Share with teachers a folder, send a board or element to students' boards, and add a board to a group.
Keeping your work (students)
- Save to my library, on your own board and above your code in My code, keeps a copy here.
- When you leave a class, or it is closed, your code, writing and own boards from it are copied here, into a folder called "From" and the class's name.
- A saved
.pyfile has Run in the playground in its ⋯ menu. Run it there, change it, and save it again as a new file.
One layout on every tab (teachers)
Every tab of the Library looks the same: search and New … at the top, places on the left (each with ⋯, or a right click, for what you can do there), and what the place holds as cards or a list (the two buttons at the top switch). Click a card to open it.
Activities and courses (teachers)
Library › Activities keeps activities to give to any group: documents to write in, boards (each starting from one of your boards, or a worksheet you upload), and code with tests. New library activity asks the same as a group's New activity; Save to library on an activity keeps it (a board activity's board goes in Resources), and Add to group gives it as the same kind. Library › Courses holds your courses (see Getting started). On a group's Course page, each lesson says when sessions taught it or will (Taught 20 Oct, Planned Tue 27 Oct, 10:00), from the lesson chosen for each session, and the top says how many lessons sessions have taught so far.
From the library… at the top of Activities, Homework, Quizzes and Boards takes things from your library without leaving the page: tick one or several (your own come first) and Add. Activities are added not sent yet; on Homework the activity opens as a new homework, for you to choose who and by when; a board becomes one of the group's boards, hidden from students until you share it; a quiz is added as a draft, for you to give when you're ready. Save to library… in a board's, activity's, homework's or quiz's menu keeps a copy.
Library › Activities lists everything students can do, whatever its kind: Format, beside Subject and Level (All formats, Documents, Boards, Code, Questions, Spoken answers), shows one kind. New library activity › Questions lets you write the questions there and then, without opening a group, with a picture, sound, film or file for any question; Edit… in its menu changes them. A quiz you made in a group can be kept too (Save to library… in its menu). Add to the group open gives it again as a draft; deleting it from the library leaves your groups' copies as they are.
Library › Lessons holds your lessons: the teaching itself, with its notes, resources, activities and plan (a time in your diary is a session). New lesson names one; the left side shows your lessons by course. Add to a course… puts it in a course; in a course, From the library… does the same. One lesson can be in several courses: change it once and every course shows the change (Duplicate makes a copy to change apart). Remove from the course takes it out of one course only; Delete… in the Library removes it from every course, and what your groups were taught stays in their history.
An open lesson shows at the top how long its plan takes, whether it is Ready to teach (or what is still to add), and whether your changes are Saved: they save as you type. Below are its parts, each saying who sees it, with a ? to explain it: Notes (students see them), Plan (only you: timed steps), Materials (students see them: Add from Resources…, or Upload material, which also keeps the file in Resources), Activities (Add from the Library…, or Create activity right there, questions included: it goes in the lesson, and a copy is kept in Library › Activities) and Homework. Expand gives the lesson the whole page, with its parts one click away at the top; what you add from the Library opens at the side. Use with (named after the group open) brings the lesson into that group; Use with another group… in its menu lets you choose.
A lesson can also hold homework (activities of the library, due a number of days after the lesson) and quizzes of your library. Load a lesson… at the top of a group's Classroom puts it in the group: tick what to bring (boards stay hidden until you share them; activities kept ready or sent; homework with its due date; quizzes as drafts or given), and whether it is the lesson of today's session. The note afterwards has Undo. Start this lesson on the Course page opens the same window.
Storage
Your plan decides how much your library may hold. Files you add to boards count too.
Boards of your own
New board… makes a board of your own in your library (students too: My notes). Choose its first page: a Lined page, like a notebook (add pages with Pages on the board), or a Blank board.
